The Equanimous Mind®

An inner dialogue with doubt, clarity, and truth–a reflective lens on the human condition.

About

Hi, I’m Nicole—poet, novelist, and literary theorist specializing in Deconstruction theory. I find I am currently navigating the winding, beautiful path of building a life through words, questions, and creativity. I earned my MA in English Literature from San Francisco State University, where I first began to understand how language could hold both personal healing and political power. I now work as a freelance technical writer and a teacher’s assistant while pursuing an advanced degree in Creative Writing, with a focus on themes involving identity and gender theory.

My creative journey began with nature poetry—drawn to the wisdom of the natural world and how its patterns, seasons, and silences could offer metaphors for human growth and resilience. From there, my work expanded into literary philosophy, with a particular interest in how we might use narrative to deconstruct systems of thought, question inherited identities, and imagine new ways of being. These threads now come together in my current project: a science fiction novel that explores postcolonial futures, feminist agency, and the tension between magic and technology across imagined worlds.

When I’m not writing or researching, you’ll likely find me singing (often dramatically), doing improv comedy, or taking long walks with my loyal poodle. I value community, conversation, and moments of quiet joy—whether with close friends, family, or a good book. The Equanimous Mind is where I share insights from this journey: the inner shifts, the philosophical questions, the doubt and clarity that live side by side. It’s a space for reflection, softness, and staying grounded in a world that rarely slows down.

Thanks for being here.
